Type Locality and Naming

In the Okzhetpes Mountains, Central Kyzylkum. A.A. Shapkin et al. (1974) described the Okzhetpes type section, Ya.B. Aysanov et al. (1984) assigned these deposits the status of a suite in the middle-upper Devonian.

Lithology and Thickness

Light gray, aphinitic limestones with thin lenticular layers of clayey varieties. Thickness: 490m.

Lower contact

Underlying strata are unknown

Upper contact

Conformably overlain by the limestones of the Dzhuskyuduk Fm (Aysanov et al., 1984).

Central Kyzylkum, Okzhetpes Mountains, core of the Okzhetpes brachy anticline.

Fossils

Contains crinoids - Pentagonocyclicus radialis Yelt.; amphiporae - Amphipora ramosa Phill.; brachiopods - Stringocephalus burtini Defr. and others of the Givetian stage (Shapkin et al., 1974).

Middle-late Devonian age is accepted based on organic remains and position below the Lower Carboniferous deposits.
